1859 map of route from Sioux City, Iowa, through Nebraska, to gold fields of Wyoming, partially following old Mormon trails. Sioux City was laid out in the winter of 1854–1855. [5] It became a major transportation hub to the western Plains, including Mormons heading to Salt Lake City and speculators heading to Wyoming goldfields.
The North Side is the colloquial reference to the mostly residential neighborhood north of about 18th Street and ending near North High School. US 75 was created in 1926 with the U.S. Highway System, but its route dates back to 1917 when the King of Trails Association formed. The King of Trails entered Iowa at Council Bluffs and traveled north along the Missouri River to Sioux City, where it branched.
