The Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell is a venue for outdoor concerts and other large gatherings in the Waikiki area of Honolulu, Hawaii. Built in 1956, [1] the Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell seats 2,400 persons and the lawn area has capacity for an additional 6,000 persons. [2] It is under the management of the Neal S. Blaisdell Center. [1]
The complex has a multi-purpose arena, concert hall, exhibition hall, galleria, meeting rooms, Waikiki Shell and others. Constructed in 1964 on the historic Ward Estate and originally called the Honolulu International Center, the center was renamed after Mayor of Honolulu Neal S. Blaisdell, who oversaw its construction. [2]
The park also serves as both the starting and finish lines of road races in Honolulu, including the Honolulu Marathon. Kapiʻolani park is also home to Honolulu Cricket Club, the only cricket club in the Hawaiian Islands. Founded in 1893, it is the oldest sporting club in the Pacific according to Guinness World Records. [6]
Blue Note Hawaii is a jazz club in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii. It is a part of the Blue Note chain. It opened on January 14, 2016, with Kenny G and Jake Shimabukuro performing for several days. [1] It features live jazz and blues music and also popular Hawaiian musical artists. It is located in the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort.
In 1892 it was renamed the Pacific Club. After moving around Honolulu, in 1926 it finally acquired the former estate of Archibald Scott Cleghorn , the birthplace of Princess Kaʻiulani . In 1959 Vladimir Ossipoff designed a new building with an open lanai which won the Hawaii American Institute of Architects award in 1965. [ 2 ]
