In 2015 the FIA organised the first international cup for R-GT cars. The first season was competed on five tarmac events of the WRC and ERC: Rallye Monte-Carlo, Ypres Rally, Rallye Deutschland, Rallye International du Valais and Tour de Corse. The Rallye de France Alsace was a rally competition held in the Alsace region of France. The rally took place on roads in the Vosges mountains, as well as on similar vineyard tracks to Rallye Deutschland. In 2010, it became the French round of the World Rally Championship, the Rallye de France, replacing the Tour de Corse rally in Corsica.
In November 2011, the team revealed they have made a multi-year contract with the French rally star Sébastien Ogier and his co-driver Julien Ingrassia. For 2012 season , Volkswagen Motorsport continued developing their Polo R World Rally Car and they also completed a full WRC-campaign (except New Zealand ) with a pair of Škoda Fabias.
