The league comprises seven divisions (North, Central, Southern Premier and Southern A, B, and C). The title winners of each of the seven Football Conference Youth Alliance divisions go into a Championship Play Off to find the National Football Conference Youth Alliance Champion each season.
From 2012 to 2016, EPPP Category 1 academies' most senior youth league was an under-21 league known as the U21 Premier League, with four over-age outfield players being permitted to play. From the 2016–17 season onwards, the competition is known as the Premier League 2 and the age limit was increased from under-21 to under-23. [ 2 ]
The Football League Youth Alliance sometimes known as League 3 is run by the Football League under the auspices of the EFL Youth Alliance. 45 teams were scheduled to competed this season, however one team was expelled before the season began.
They play in the Professional Development League Group B. The under-18 players, among other younger age groups, make up the Academy team. They play in the Youth Alliance League's Southwest Division and contest the Youth Alliance Cup. Home fixtures for both sides are contested at the Canford Park Arena in Wimborne, Bournemouth.
The league was founded as the FA Premier Youth League in 1997, replacing regionally based youth leagues such as the South East Counties League as the top level of youth football.
