James Bernard West (July 27, 1912 – July 18, 1983) was the 6th Chief Usher of the White House serving from 1957 to 1969. Walter Richard West Sr. (1912–1996, Southern Cheyenne), was a painter, sculptor, and educator. He led the Art Department at Bacone College from 1947 to 1970. He later taught at Haskell Institute for several years. [1] West was an enrolled citizen of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes.
