Bridgewater is a town in Litchfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 1,662 at the 2020 census , [ 1 ] a decline from the figure of 1,727 tabulated in 2010. The town is part of the Western Connecticut Planning Region .

Bridgewater Center Historic District encompasses the traditional town center of Bridgewater, Connecticut. Centered at the junction of Main Street with Clapboard and Hat Shop Hill Roads, it developed in the early 19th century as a civic center, even before the town's 1856 incorporation from New Milford .
In the 1920s, the alignment of modern Route 133 was known as State Highway 182.In 1932, Route 133 was created and used part of old Highway 182 from Federal Road (US 202) to Brookfield Center, then turned north along Whisconier Road (modern Route 25) to end back at Federal Road in Brookfield village.

Route 67 was established in the 1932 state highway renumbering from Bridgewater (beginning at modern Route 133, which was then part of an old alignment of Route 25) to New Haven (continuing past Woodbridge along current Route 63). When Route 25 was realigned in April 1943, Route 67 took over the old Route 25 alignment to New Milford. [6]
