Large bales come in two types: round and square. Large square bales, which can weigh up to 1,000 kilograms (2,200 lb), can be stacked and easily transported on trucks. Large round bales, which typically weigh 300 to 400 kilograms (660–880 lb), are more moisture-resistant and pack the hay more densely (especially at the center).
Small square bales weigh from 25 to 30 kg (55 to 66 lb) depending on moisture, and can be easily hand separated into "flakes". Cattle ranches use large round bales, typically 1.4 to 1.8 m ( 4 + 1 ⁄ 2 to 6 ft) in diameter and weighing from 500 to 1,000 kg (1,100 to 2,200 lb).
Bale Accumulators: [13] Typically these are attached directly to the baler and arrange the small square bales into groups to be retrieved with a "bale grabber" or "bale grab" mounted on a loader. There are a number of different methods employed by these machines to arrange the bales into groups.

Bales weighed an average 1,282 kilograms (2,826 lb), and transported to the balefill with 14 bales on a truck. They were then stacked three bales high. Over 98,000 tonnes (96,000 long tons; 108,000 short tons) of waste were baled into almost 76,000 bales during a one-year study period, The baling plant was sold and closed in June 1974. [1]
Today baling has largely replaced the stook method of drying hay, or hay is chopped and ensilaged either in silos or on the ground inside polymer wrappers to make haylage. In North America , a stook may also refer to a field stack of six, ten or fifteen small (70–90 lb (30–40 kg)), rectangular bales of hay or straw .
