Space Empires: Starfury is a 4X turn-based strategy computer game developed by Malfador Machinations and published by Shrapnel Games on September 22, 2003. The game is set in a Space Empires universe containing planetary systems linked by warp points, or wormholes. The game allows the player to control a single spaceship to explore the universe.
Malfador Machinations was created by Aaron Hall to publish Space Empires II, the sequel to his self-produced 4X game, Space Empires, which was released two years earlier in 1993.
In Space Empires, the player assumes the role of the single leader of a race of intelligent beings that has recently acquired the technology required to build large fully space-based ships for interplanetary and interstellar travel.
The 3rd Edition of Starfire is a boxed version called Starfire (i.e. Tactical Starfire) while the Strategic Component is called Imperial Starfire.These, along with Stars at War and Crusade were written by David Weber and produced by Task Force Games.
The Starfury fighter, which Commander Sinclair uses to grapple the Soul Hunter ship, was designed by Steve Burg as a function-driven design for a plausible zero-gravity fighter.
