St. Edward's origins began with St. Edward's Primary School which was established in 1865 by a French Roman Catholic priest, Rev. Father Edward Blanchet. From 1936 to 1959 Mayfield College had an associated preparatory boarding school known as the School of St. Edward the Confessor [8] at Foxhunt Manor in Waldron, East Sussex where the religious order of Xaverian Brothers also taught boys from 8–12 years of age. On closing the prep school became a convent known as Monastery of the Visitation.

In 1948, the school was renamed Casady School. The Chapel of St. Edward the Confessor was built in 1948. Frank J. Hightower, a founding Trustee of the school, donated the funds for its construction. By 1965, the campus also included 12 more buildings, including the Headmaster's House and Calvert Hall. The Primary building was added in 1969.
