The Communist Party's aim is the abolition of private ownership and control of capital and the construction of a classless, moneyless, and stateless society thereafter. Its most recent state conference was held in January 2018. The party has city clubs in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Lufkin, and San Antonio.
The Socialist Party of Texas (SPTX) is a democratic socialist political party in the U.S. state of Texas. It is the state chapter of the Socialist Party USA. It was founded in 1906 as an affiliate of the Socialist Party of America. In 1912, the SPTX effectively tied the Republican and Progressive Parties in votes.
Texas was formerly called the Republic of Texas, a sovereign state for nine years prior to the Texas annexation by the United States. Accordingly, its sovereignty was not recognized by Mexico although Texas defeated the Mexican forces in the Texas Revolution, and authorities in Texas did not actually control all of its claimed territory.
