In Unix and Linux, the shutdown command can be used to turn off or reboot a computer. Only the superuser or a user with special privileges can shut the system down. One commonly issued form of this command is shutdown -h now, which will shut down a system immediately. Another one is shutdown -r now to reboot.
In Windows XP only, there is a "Shut Down" menu that provides access to Standby, Hibernate, Turn off, Restart, Log Off, and Switch User. Users have the option of performing a traditional shutdown by holding down the Shift key while clicking Shut Down [21] and it is also possible to shut down a computer in the traditional way by disabling Fast Startup in the system settings. Windows 10 mirrors Windows 8 as noted by Microsoft. [3]
