Blackhawk Park is a park in Vernon County, Wisconsin within the Driftless Area along the Mississippi River. The park features views of steep limestone bluffs and the river valleys. Wildlife viewing is a popular activity, including the variety of birds which inhabit or migrate through the park.
For a time Vernon County was the greatest producer of ginseng in the United States. [2] The protection of what became Wildcat Mountain State Park started off in 1938 when a local man, Amos Saunders, donated 20 acres (8.1 ha) of land for the establishment of a park.
Wisconsin became the first state to have a state park in 1878 [1] when it formed "The State Park". The park consisted of 760 square miles (2,000 km 2) in northern Wisconsin (most of present-day Vilas County). [2] The state owned 50,631 acres (205 km 2), which was less than 10% of the total area. [2] There were few residents in the area.

Vernon County was renamed from Bad Ax County on March 22, 1862. Bad Ax County had been created on March 1, 1851, from territory that had been part of Richland and Crawford counties. [4] [5] The name Vernon was chosen to reflect the county's green fields of wheat and to evoke Mount Vernon. [6]
Tunnelville is an unincorporated community in the counties of Richland and Vernon in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. [1] The portion in Richland County is located in the town of Forest, and the portion in Vernon County is located in the town of Stark.
