Re: 5/8 x 24 thread - muzzle devices - need advice. Just because they are 5/8" X 24 doesnt mean that anything threaded 5/8" x 24 will fit them. Your brake does, your can does not. THe smith cut the barrel threads to fit your brake, and it does. Most cans are threaded to the tightest tolerances there are, some muzzle brakes, it doesnt matter.

May 20, 2020. #7. You can use anything up to a .30 brake on it. You won't feel the difference. My .223 is threaded to 5/8-24 and I got it that way so I can use anything I use on my others rifles on it. I use a .30 brake on mine as I had it already and it works great. The 6mm PVA would be a good choice or even the 6.5.

www.griffinarmament.com. Nov 2, 2011. #10. Re: minimum barrel size to thread for 5/8-24 mount. If your suppressor is counterbored for threads without relief cuts you may need .745 to get the same .05" a side of actual metal contact. C.

Nitrided- ACE Muzzle Brake - 5/8-24 class 3. This brake was designed by two of the best precision rifle shooters in the country, Austin Orgain and Clay Blackketter. The main intent and goal behind the design of the brake was to give shooters a better sight window through recoil, all while being easy on the shooter.

  6. Muzzle brake for thin barrel ( 0.63” ) 5/8” x 24 - Sniper's Hide

5/8" = .625". If I were installing a muzzle device on that barrel I'd turn the length to be threaded down to .620" diameter before chasing the 5/8-24 threads. Then I'd use a jam nut or a thread locking agent to fix the muzzle device on since there'll be no shoulder to lock against. A.

  7. 9/16 or 5/8 x 24 muzzle thread recommendations?

The AWC can be ordered either way. CA typically threads their muzzle brakes for 9/16, but they will do whatever is needed. The barrel started out as a 24" MILSPEC 5R, but is being cut down to 18". If memory serves, it has a muzzle diameter around .98" or just under that.

If you are looking for the most effective device than you may want to stay with the standard. 1/2-28 are sized for .223/.224 projectiles where 5/8-24 are sized for 6mm/.243 or .308 projectiles.

  10. Gunsmithing Torqueing down Muzzle Brake? - Sniper's Hide

Luva_n_FrenZ said: The AAC 7.62 MB calls for 45-55ft/lbs of torque, a bit excessive IMO. I'm afraid of warping the threads if I get anywhere toward that much torque. Normally for my suppressor mounts, I add a drop or two of Rocksett and shim the device until I have 10-15 degrees of rotation left to align it.
