Okemos (/ ˈ oʊ k ə m ə s / OH-kə-məss) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Ingham County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population of the CDP was 25,121 at the 2020 census . Okemos is part of the urban area of Lansing–East Lansing , and is located nearby the campus of Michigan State University .
In 2005–06, the district enrolled 4,210 students and employed 298 teachers, 19 administrators, and 233 support personnel. In 2009, the Okemos school board decided, to reorganize the district's elementary and middle schools. One key objective was to close budget deficits resulting from lagging tax revenues and declining enrolments.
On the Ingham County Board of Commissioners, the township is split between the 13th, 14th, and 15th districts. In the Michigan legislature, the township lies in the 73rd and 75th state house districts, and the 28th state senate district. At the federal level, the township is included within Michigan's 7th congressional district.
