Ixtapa (Spanish pronunciation:, Nahuatl pronunciation ⓘ) is a resort city in Mexico, adjacent to the Pacific Ocean in the municipality of Zihuatanejo de Azueta in the state of Guerrero. It is located 5 km (3 mi) northwest of the municipal seat, Zihuatanejo , and 245 km (150 mi) northwest of Acapulco .
Isla Ixtapa (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈislajɣsˈtapa]) is a small island near Zihuatanejo in the Mexican state of Guerrero. Three main beaches on Isla Ixtapa are- Playa Varadero, Playa Cuachalalate, and Playa Coral.
In the 1970s, the area changed radically when the federal government decided to develop the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa area into a tourist attraction.
