Kuala Lipis was a gold-mining centre before the British arrived in 1887. In 1898, it became the capital of Pahang within the British-administered Federated Malay States.During this colonial era, grand buildings, such as the imposing district offices, the Clifford School, and the Pahang Club, were built.

The Lipis River, a tributary of the Jelai, begins at the Pahang–Perak border in Ulu Sungai, Raub district and ends at the confluence with the Jelai at Kuala Lipis. The Semantan River, a tributary of the Pahang, starts in Bentong district and merges with the river at Kuala Semantan.
Lipis is a federal constituency in Lipis District, Pahang, Malaysia, that has been represented in the Dewan Rakyat since 1959. The federal constituency was created in the 1958 redistribution and is mandated to return a single member to the Dewan Rakyat under the first past the post voting system.

Federal Route 55 or Jalan Kuala Kubu Bharu–Teranum–Raub (also called Jalan Pahang in Kuala Kubu Bharu) is a 62-km federal road connecting the states of Selangor and Pahang in Malaysia. It is the first federal road ever constructed in Pahang. [ 1 ]
