English: The granites of Yosemite Valley and Half Dome are part of an extensive, Cretaceous-aged intrusive complex in eastern California called the Sierra Nevada Batholith. The complex consists of numerous individual plutons, many of which are old, cooled magma chambers that were originally beneath ancient subduction zone volcanoes.
