A two-door coupé or convertible, and has four seats, it was the first new Bentley released after the company's acquisition by Volkswagen AG in 1998, and the first Bentley to employ mass production manufacturing techniques.
Rolls-Royce acquired Bentley in 1931 and continued to use Bentley engines alongside their own for a time, although none was a V8. Prior to World War II , Rolls-Royce had developed a 7.3-litre V-12 for the Phantom III , which was succeeded by the inlet-over-exhaust B60 straight-6 and B80 straight-8 series of engines.

Bentley Continental refers to several models of cars produced by Bentley Motors. Originally, it referred to a special chassis for engines more powerful than the usual offering, supplied to a selected number of coachbuilders for the fitting of very light-weight coachwork designed under Rolls-Royce supervision.
It uses the Mulsanne Speed's 6 + 3 ⁄ 4 liter turbo V8, putting out 530 hp (395 kW) and 811 lb⋅ft (1,100 N⋅m) of torque. [1] The interior is finished in leather with Mulliner's signature diamond quilting. The convertible top's tonneau cover is covered with largest wood veneer ever applied to a Bentley, in book matched Burr Walnut wood.
For just 16 customers, the W-12 is getting even more powerful on the way out.
Rolls-Royce purchased Bentley in 1931 and the new engine was intended for use in both Rolls-Royce and Bentley automobiles. The result was a series of V8 engines known internally as the "L410", the name relating to its bore size of 4.10 inches, in accordance with the company practice.
