The Georgetown, Breckenridge and Leadville Railway was a railroad in Colorado incorporated in 1880. A portion of the line, known as the Georgetown Loop, was a tourism destination during the railroad company's operating period, [1] and was rebuilt in the late 20th century as a heritage railway.
The line was a spur to Breckenridge (eventually extended to Leadville) off the company's main line from Denver through South Park. A roundhouse, still in existence, was constructed at Como at the junction of the lines. The rail line over the pass was a major engineering feat, primarily because of the winter snows at high altitude.
The Georgetown, Breckenridge, and Leadville Railroad had been formed in 1881 under the Union Pacific Railroad. [7] The Loop portion of the line was the crowning segment of the line, crossing the top of the gorge on a 95-foot (29 m) high trestle.

The segment from Leadville to Climax was paved by 1936, and the entire route was paved by 1954. In 1938, route 91 became US 6 , until US 6 was rerouted over Vail Pass in 1941, leaving the portion of route 91 from Copper Mountain (formerly Wheeler Junction) to Leadville as the surviving part of this historic highway.
