Many older computer systems logged keystrokes to a separate storage device, and were capable of rebuilding a days transactions from the keystroke logs and an overnight backup. (I had the dubious pleasure of running this software on a GEAC 8000 when the overnight crashed and the backups had been incorrectly made.)
