Compared to its predecessor, the W246 is 90 mm (3.5 in) longer, 8 mm (0.31 in) wider, and is 46 mm (1.8 in) lower, while its wheel base has shortened by 80 mm (3.1 in). It used the automobile platform from the first generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Up to seven seater capacity was available, but this vehicle was not built as a van, instead it was built as a MPV.
