The Great Lakes Quilt Center is the Michigan State University Museum’s center for quilt-related research, education, and exhibition activities. [1] While the museum, established in 1857, [2] has long held significant collections, its focus of activities on quilt scholarship and education began with the launch of the Michigan Quilt Project at the museum in 1984 [citation needed].
The establishment allows visitors to view the lifestyle of those who lived in Troy Township in the 1800s. The carefully restored buildings include the main building (City Hall), log cabin, a Greek Revival Home, a brick one-room school, print shop, wagon shop, a town hall, a general store, and a turn of the century church and parsonage.
The Michigan State University Museum most commonly referred to as the MSU Museum is Michigan State University's oldest museum formed in 1857. [1] It is the state of Michigan's first Smithsonian Affiliate. [2] [3] It was formed to support the work of the university and is also known for hosting the Great Lakes Quilt Center.
Michigan is home to three quilt trails. The Old Mission Peninsula Quilt Barns Trail is located on the Old Mission Peninsula, a landmass north of Traverse City known for its cherry production and viticulture. [2] Another quilt trail is located on Michigan's Thumb. [3] An additional quilt trail is located in Mason County, part of West Michigan. [4]
