More than one stub template may be used, if necessary, though no more than four should be used on any article. Graffiti ranges from simple written words to elaborate wall paintings. Graffiti, consisting of the defacement of public spaces and buildings, remains a nuisance issue for cities. In America, graffiti was used as a form of expression by political activists, and also by gangs such as the Savage Skulls, La Familia, and Savage Nomads to mark territory.
This work prominently depicts a work of illegal graffiti which might not be in the public domain and has not been released under a free license. Occasionally graffiti will be kept, using the claim that an author might be denied any copyright relief based on an illegal act; however, there is no evidence of this legal theory being tested.
Label 228 likely became popular for graffiti in the late 1990s. Hrag Vartanian of Hyperallergic argues that by 2002, "the culture of the postal sticker was well established in the world of grafitti," [6] and a 2002 compilation of graffiti stickers shows Label 228 slaps from 2001 in multiple locations in the United States. [7]
