[2] Nickelodeon believed that The Backyardigans was an ideal "evergreen" property: a series that would stay in production for a long time through multiple generations. A fifth season was planned in 2009. [2] However, in 2010, Burgess decided to end The Backyardigans to start working on Nickelodeon's newer projects: a revival series of Winx Club.
The fourth season wrapped production in 2010 and finished airing on Nick Jr. on July 12, 2013. [3] The series was based upon a live-action pilot called Me and My Friends, which was filmed in 1998 at Nickelodeon Studios Florida. [4] [5] During the course of the series, 80 episodes of The Backyardigans aired over four seasons.
