The South Carolina Penitentiary (SCP) (renamed the Central Correctional Institution (CCI) in 1965) was the state of South Carolina's first prison. Completed in 1867, the South Carolina Penitentiary served as the primary state prison for nearly 130 years until its demolition in 1999.

[1] The Women's Reception and Evaluation Center, which processes all females entering SCDC, is in the prison. [citation needed] The prison opened in 1973, as "Women's Correctional Institution".

The Woodrow Wilson Family Home is located in Columbia, South Carolina [2] [3] and was one of the childhood homes of the 28th President Woodrow Wilson. He lived in the house from 1871 to 1875. In 1967, Historic Columbia purchased the house. Renovation occurred in 2013 and the house was re-opened to the public in 2014.
