Men of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in France, September 1939. The 1st Battalion was a Regular Army unit stationed in British India on the outbreak of war. It spent the entire war there, fighting in the early stages of the Burma campaign.
The 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot was an Irish infantry regiment of the British Army, formed in 1689. Under the Childers Reforms it amalgamated with the 108th (Madras Infantry) Regiment of Foot to form the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in 1881.
The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers formed part of 29th Division, intended for service in the Gallipoli Campaign.
