Photo CD is a system designed by Kodak for digitizing and saving photos onto a CD. Launched in 1991, [ 1 ] the discs were designed to hold nearly 100 high quality images, scanned prints and slides using special proprietary encoding.
Software to view and perform simple edits to images is included on the CD. Most digital minilabs and many Kodak Picture Kiosks are capable of producing Kodak Picture CDs from either film or digital pictures. The Picture CD is a standard recordable CD with Kodak software prerecorded. Images are burned onto the CD using a standard CD-R drive.
Since a CD can generally hold up to some 700 megabytes of data, this can mean over a hundred songs or thousands of photographs.
