My only advice would be buy a Ruger 10/22 if only because you can buy all kinds of parts for and make it into whatever you want now or down the road. Not to mention they are just fun, accurate, and simple. I don't know what a blue gun goes for but I got a stainless rifle for 209 at wallyworld a few years back.

Model 14, which looks just like OP's rifle, does have the same fat fore end with sling fastener as OP's rifle. Model 34 also looks exactly like OP's rifle (it also has the same internals as the model 30) complete with the fat fore end. I've found pics of Model 34 both with, and without, the sling fastener.

I do not want to spend a fortune. Thus, I have my eye on a Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 4x32 Rimfire #6305 (and btw, for the life of me I cannot tell what the difference is between this model and the Nikon #6718), which costs around $90-100.
