The people who set up Naomh Gearóid purchased a site for a club's premises and pitch. That site was situated in what is now the Robinhood Industrial Estate on Long Mile Road (where Heiton/Buckley's Builders Providers is now); however, for various reasons, mainly financial, they were forced to resell the property to pay off their debts.

It was built for James Dewar and his family in 1876 by Andrew Heiton, the town architect for Perth. Dewar was the creator of Dewar's whisky. Vogrie House. The current house is an example of Victorian baronial splendour and is said to be one of the best surviving examples of Heiton's work.

The Sligo county hurling team represents Sligo in hurling and is governed by Sligo GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. [1] The team competes in the Christy Ring Cup and the National Hurling League. It formerly competed in the abolished Connacht Senior Hurling Championship, finishing as runner-up in 1900 and 1906.
