Koen Lenaerts, Baron Lenaerts (Dutch: [kun ˈleːnaːrts]; born 20 December 1954) [1] is a Belgian jurist and the President of the Court of Justice of the European Union. [2] [3] He is also a Professor of European Law at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and was a member of the Coudenberg group, a Belgian federalist think tank.
The President of the Court of Justice is elected from and by the judges for a renewable term of three years. The President presides over hearings and deliberations, directing both judicial business and administration. The European Court of Justice is the highest court in the European Union in matters of European Union law.
