Leslie O'Shaughnessy (April 13, 1954 – August 14, 2023) [1] was a Canadian politician, who was elected mayor of Cornwall, Ontario in the 2014 municipal election. [2]Born in Cornwall, O'Shaughnessy previously served as reeve of the nearby township of Charlottenburg in the 1990s, [2] and ran as a Progressive Conservative Party of Canada candidate for Stormont—Dundas in the 1997 federal election.
Cornwall Council is a unitary authority which has held elections every four years since its creation in 2009. [4] In the previous election in 2021, the Conservative Party won a majority of seats, taking over governance of the council [ 5 ] from the previous Liberal Democrat coalition with independent councillors.
