A prominent mountain, 765 metres (2,510 ft) high, the highest feature on Joinville Island, standing immediately north of Mount Alexander near the center of the island. Discovered by a British expedition under Ross on December 30, 1842, and named for Rear Admiral the Honorable Josceline Percy, RN, 1784-1856.
Alexander Tolmer (1815 – 7 March 1890) was a South Australian police officer and Police Commissioner. He was educated at Plymouth , Rouen , Maidstone and Hawkhurst . He migrated to South Australia in 1840 where he was made sub-inspector by Governor George Gawler .
Charles Howard-Bury led the 1921 expedition and George Mallory, who had never before been to Himalaya, was included in the team. As events were to turn out, Mallory became the de facto lead climber. Howard-Bury wrote a book about the expedition, Mount Everest, the Reconnaissance, 1921, to which Mallory contributed six of the chapters.
