The Northland Arboretum is a 583-acre non-profit arboretum and nature reserve in Brainerd, Minnesota, United States.. The arboretum was founded in 1972 when the Brainerd Landfill closed; that original 40-acre (160,000 m 2) landfill site now supports a grassland.
The arboretum features annual and perennial display gardens, plants developed for northern climates, demonstration gardens, a Japanese garden, a maze garden and natural areas including woodlands, prairie, and marshes. Its collections include clematis, dahlias, ornamental grasses, hostas, iris, wildflowers, and cultivated and hardy shrub roses.

The park preserves steep-sided bluffs rising 500 feet (150 m) above the river and the narrow valleys between them, which support rare and fragile plant communities. Two of the bluffs have received further protection under the Minnesota Scientific and Natural Areas program, which are known as King's and Queen's Bluff Scientific and Natural Area.
Encompassing 5,400 acres (22 km 2) of native upland forests and prairie and lowland swamps and meadows, the site contains over 900 plots of long-term experimental research which evaluate plant competition and biodiversity. The herbivory research division examines animal and plant relationships. [3]
