Barnegat Light is a borough in Ocean County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 640, [9] an increase of 66 (+11.5%) from the 2010 census count of 574, [18] [19] which in turn reflected a decline of 190 (−24.9%) from the 764 counted in the 2000 census. [20]

Adjacent to the lighthouse is the Barnegat Lighthouse Interpretive Center, run by the state of New Jersey and staffed by Members of the non-profit group that purchased the new light. The center shows the history of Barnegat Lighthouse from shipwreck to first-class seacoast light.
The ships were dependent upon the Barnegat Lighthouse to avoid the shoals extending from the shoreline. The fast currents, shifting sandbars, and offshore shoals challenged sailors. The park is included as a maritime site on the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail. The park is operated and maintained by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry.
