Bach Mai Airfield (Vietnamese: Sân bay Bach Mai) is a disused military airport in Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi, Vietnam, located along modern-day Le Trong Tan street.It was constructed by the French in 1917 and used by French forces until 1954; along with Gia Lam Airbase, it was one of the major logistics bases supporting French operations at Dien Bien Phu. Phan Thiet Airport (Vietnamese: Sân bay Phan Thiết) is an under construction airport in Thiện Nghiệp, Phan Thiết, Bình Thuận Province, southern Vietnam.The mixed-use facility will cost around VND10 trillion (US$435.28 million) to build.
The museum is on the edge of the disused Bach Mai Airfield. The museum tells the history of the Vietnam People's Air Force (VPAF) from its formation in 1954 through to the present day. There is a heavy emphasis on its role in the Second Indochina War and the Cambodian-Vietnamese War .
Initially built by the French colonists as Moranc Airfield at Quản Long town, An Xuyên province (now Cà Mau City) with the runway of 400 m long and 16 m wide.. June 1962, Bureau of Aviation of the Republic of Vietnam rebuilt this airfield in an area of 91.61 hectares, the runway of 1050m x 30m, the apron 60m x 120 m and renamed it Quan Long Airport (Phi trường Quản Long).
There are currently no scheduled services to Nà Sản as the airport is closed. In January 2015, an upgrade was proposed for the airport. According to the modified plan for 2020 with vision to 2030, the airport would become a mixed-use domestic airport capable of handling 900,000 passengers a year by 2020 and 1.5 million by 2030, its single runway would be extended to 2,600 m (8,500 ft).
