According to the 2010 census, Hamilton has a total area of 3.15 square miles (8.16 km 2), of which 2.39 square miles (6.19 km 2) (or 75.87%) is land and 0.76 square miles (1.97 km 2) (or 24.13%) is water. [6] The town is served by Indiana Highway 1, Indiana Highway 427, and Bellefontaine Road, which connects to Old US 27 in Pleasant Lake.

Hamilton was originally called Terre Coupee, and under the latter name was platted in 1837. [2] The name of Hamilton comes from Hamilton's Tavern the community once contained. [2] A post office opened under the name Terre Coupee in 1831, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1893. [3]
Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Defartment is currently the only working fire department in the township. There are 30+ firefighters that work all for the same cause, to preserve life and property in the township. The department currently operates 9 trucks, ranging from medical and utility trucks, all the way to specialized pumpers.
Wayne Township is one of nine townships in Hamilton County, Indiana, United States and serves as one of two townships within Noblesville, Indiana's jurisdiction. As of the 2010 census, its population was 7,886 and it contained 3,252 housing units, [2] an increase from 2415 in 2000, as Noblesville continues to expand eastward and Fishers reaches its northern limits.

[2] It is the least developed township in the county and the only one without an incorporated community of any kind within its boundaries.
