The Ring of Fire is a vast, mineral-rich region located in the remote James Bay Lowlands of Northern Ontario, Canada. [1] Spanning approximately 5,000 square kilometres (1,900 sq mi), the area is rich in chromite, nickel, copper, platinum group elements, gold, zinc, and other valuable minerals.

In October 2018, a yellow diamond of 552 carats was found at the mine. This is the largest diamond ever found in North America. [12] On January 23, 2024, a Northwestern Air charter flight carrying workers to the mine crashed shortly after takeoff from Fort Smith Airport, killing six people and injuring one. [13] [14]
