At the time of partition, part of the college relocated to India, called East Punjab College of Engineering. [4] In 1954, a bachelor's degree program in mining engineering was started. In 1962, it was granted a charter and was named the West Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. [5]
From 1984 to 1993, it was affiliated with the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore. In 1977, the polytechnic institute at Peshawar Road, Rawalpindi, was closed down by Gen Zia-ul-Haq, and was converted into EME College. In 2003, EME received ISO 9001-2000 certification.
