Over the course of his seven-decade career, he received many accolades including 28 Grammy Awards, [1] a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Tony Award as well as nominations for seven Academy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards.
In 1967, she rose to international prominence after appearing in the film To Sir, with Love, singing the theme song, which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for five consecutive weeks. During the 1960s, she achieved another five top-ten hits in the United Kingdom, including "Boom Bang-a-Bang", which won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1969.
Black received his second Oscar nomination for Best Song with the title theme, written with Elmer Bernstein, of the 1969 John Wayne western, True Grit. That same year, he partnered with Quincy Jones for the theme song of the Michael Caine film, The Italian Job, "On Days Like These".
