Moore in the election and was the first black person elected to the Las Cruces city commission. [8] [6] On March 18, 1968, Johnson was sworn into the city commission from the 4th district. [9]

Miyagishima was elected as the mayor of Las Cruces in 2007, as the first American of Japanese and Mexican descent to be elected mayor of the city.
