Visakhapatnam (/ v ɪ ˌ s ɑː k ə ˈ p ʌ t n ə m /; formerly known as Vizagapatam, [16] and also referred to as Vizag, Visakha, and Waltair) [1] [17] [18] is the largest and most populous metropolitan city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. [19] It is between the Eastern Ghats and the coast of the Bay of Bengal.
Under the jurisdiction of VMRDA, the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region (VMR), comprises, Visakhapatnam city and the districts Anakapalli, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam. The British, in response, surrendered at 11 pm on the same day, leading to the victory of Bussy. Subsequently, Bussy took charge of establishing order in Vizag and departed from the city with his army in 1758. Pusapati Ananda Gajapati Raju of Vizianagara Samsthanam occupied Vizag in 1758, helping the British regain their settlements. [25]

[14] On 3 April 2022, Government of Andhra Pradesh created 13 new districts in the state, hence the district was once again divided into three i.e., Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli and Alluri Sitharama Raju districts. Visakhapatnam station's area is 103,178 m 2 (1,110,600 sq ft). [6] There are eight platforms, most of which are the same size, and all of the tracks are broad-gauge and electrified. The station features escalators and a bus station. A majority of platforms are wheelchair-friendly and accessible via ramp. Over 200 employees work in the station. [6]
