The system expanded in 1998 with the addition of Greenwich Hospital. In 2016, an affiliation between Yale New Haven Health and Lawrence + Memorial Healthcare, which includes Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island, was approved. [5]

The hospital converted back to its original name of State Hospital. The Connecticut Training School, the third training school for nurses in the United States, was opened by the hospital in 1873. In 1884, the hospital's name was changed to New Haven Hospital to reflect the name that was widely being used by the residents of New Haven. [6] [7]
Built as part of Memorial Hospital, it became a separate institution in 1920 after Memorial and Lawrence Hospitals were merged, and ultimately closed in 1953. The design was based on the isolation building of the former Providence City Hospital, designed by Providence architects Martin & Hall and completed in 1911. [ 2 ]

The hospital is an integrated part of the Tufts Medicine, which also includes Lowell General Hospital, Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford,MelroseWakefield Hospital, home health services, and physician networks.
