In 1910 the newly formed Piedmont Community Church with the Reverend John Evans Stuchell, first pastor of the church and an avid outdoorsman, was seeking a new type of organization for the boys of Piedmont. He had heard rumors of a new organization inspired by General Baden-Powell in England and decided to start one of his own. [2]
Much like the increase in representation from 1994 to 2007, the number of services provided by COGs has increased as well. [2] In 1995 it was reported that only 7 of 18 COGs in existence at the time provided all four of the aforementioned services.
