The Galician chant (Ukrainian: галицький розспів), is a form of liturgical chant originating in Western Ukraine, used predominantly by the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Western Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, and to a lesser degree the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

He produced works based on Ukrainian folk melodies, and made an important contribution in the music history of Ukraine. Together with Maxim Berezovsky and Dmitry Bortniansky, Vedel is recognised by musicologists as one of the "Golden Three" composers of 18th century Ukrainian classical music, and one of Russia's greatest choral composers.
