The Second Battle of Copenhagen (or the Bombardment of Copenhagen) (16 August – 7 September 1807) was a British bombardment of the Danish capital, Copenhagen, in order to capture or destroy the Dano-Norwegian fleet during the Napoleonic Wars.

This began a series of five prequel books, closing with Sharpe's Prey (2003) which depicts the Siege of Copenhagen in 1807. Between 2003 and 2007, Cornwell wrote three novels set between Sharpe's Rifles and Sharpe's Battle. On 12 August 1807, even before the war had been declared, the British sixth-rate HMS Comus took part in a one-sided single-ship action when she captured the 32-gun Danish frigate (fregat) Friderichsværn. In the engagement the British suffered only one man wounded; the Danes lost 12 men while 20 were wounded, some mortally. [6]
