Lists of record labels cover record labels, brands or trademarks associated with marketing of music recordings and music videos. The lists are organized alphabetically, by genre, by company and by location.
Just because a sheet-music publishing company was merged with a record company many decades later does not imply it was a major label in 1928. It was non-existent as a record label that year! Now would be a good time to have some consensus regarding this template, who should be included, and what years they could be considered a "major" label.

Note that this definition does not exclude record labels owned by other large corporations from being classified as independent: for example, Billboard considered Disney Music Group to be an independent label for over a decade, despite being part of The Walt Disney Company, the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world.
