Franklin County Correctional Center I (also known as Franklin County Main Jail or FCCCI) [1] [2] [3] is a 650-bed medium-maximum security correctional facility located in Columbus, Ohio. [3] It is located at 2460 Jackson Pike, Columbus, OH 43223. It opened in 1986. [4]
A new jail building was constructed near this courthouse in 1865. [1] The building opened on November 21, 1889, two years after the opening of the 1887 Franklin County Courthouse. On the opening day, the county held an open house, allowing the public to see the building and its jail cells. [3] The building cost $165,000.
After the county government moved to Columbus in 1824, the court moved to the U.S. District Court Building on the northwest corner of Capitol Square. In 1828 or 1829, after the space was found inadequate, a long single-story office building was built to the rear of the court building; these buildings held the county court until 1840. [3] [4]

The tallest building in the complex is the 27-floor, 464-foot (141 m) Franklin County Courthouse at 373 South High Street. It is the seventh tallest building in Columbus. This was the third incarnation of the Franklin County Courthouse and hosts the majority of the county government agencies.

As of 2019, six high security death row inmates remain at OSP, four of whom were involved in the 1993 Lucasville prison riot at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility.
