Here is the picture: Item 6 is the coolant tempersture sensor that if disconnected gives you 20 seconds of glow plug on as the ECM thinks it is really cold. Oh words next to the picture would be: 6 - Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor -G62-. Color: blue. For engine control module. with Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT)Sensor -G2-.
Step 1 – Gain access. The sensor (s) thread into the in intake manifold on either side of the thermostat housing, behind the alternator. You will need to remove the intake piping to find them. Unscrew the air cleaner cover bolt, and un-clip the airbox to set it aside.
This has a Yellow with Red wire, and connects itself to. ground, presumably through its threaded connection. See page EL-99 or EL-525. There's a picture of where its located. on pages EL94 and EL-520. 2. "Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor" which feeds the ECU. This has Light Green with Red, and Black wires.
Location. dsm, ia. TDI. 2004 Jetta Wagon. Aug 8, 2015. #3. On the drivers side of the engine, back behind where the 3 coolant glow plugs go into the housing. On the back side of the housing is where you will find it. It's kind of hard to see, but it's kind of between the brake booster and the head.
cts. if your temperature needle behaves erratic, sometime remains unmoved, sometime shoots to 190, sometimes toggles between these two temp numbers (0 or 190), and there is MIL, try fixing this problem by replacing the coolent temperature sensor. You can get the sensor from Autozone for about $10.

To my knowledge, there are 2 on my car. One under the intake flap motor on the right side of the engine (driver's side) tucked way down near engine between large coolant line and the engine and the other sensor is located between the radiator and engine most of the way down on smaller coolant hose about mid car.
There is a blue sensor in the front section of the vehicle, driver's side near the bottom of the fan blade. It looks to be in a coolant line. I have read where the coolant sensor may be blue, black or green. VW sold me a green sensor and I continue to be told by VW that they think the coolant sensor is located in the back of the engine.
The last thing you need is to see your new sensor fall through your right hand’s fingers) Once that is done you can slow down. 11) Firmly press the new sensor into its’ place and return the plastic clip. 12) Remove the plug from the old sensor. 13) Orient and place the plug onto the newly installed sensor.
This can be many things, a bad meter, a bad gauge, shorted wire, thermal transmitter, etc. Anyways, I have read the FSM many times, and though it gives the location for the Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (ECTS), which controls the ECM, it does not show the location for the Thermal Transmitter (Water Temp. Sender), which sends the signal to the ...
