The band was called "Above" and featured computer-designed band members in a virtual world, whose lyrics and songs were written by Samael. Later through Myspace, the band announced that they would be taking their side-project Above and turning it into their newest Samael album. Commenting on the album, Vorph said:
Samael is known to incorporate metal, industrial, electronic and symphonic music into their sound and mix it with massive beats, martial rhythms and up-tempo or blast beat. One of the key elements that distinguishes Samael from traditional metal bands is the use of a drum machine in studio and live on stage.

Era One is a 2006 album by Swiss industrial metal band Samael. It saw the band return to the Century Media label, with composition and instrumentals by Xy, and lyrics and vocals by Vorph . [ 1 ] It includes a bonus disc, "Lessons in Magic #1", which is entirely instrumental and done solely by band member Xy.
