A post office named Pitt opened on January 21, 1835 but closed on September 14, 1836. The community was renamed Pittsfield in 1840. In 1878, a railway line along the Toledo & Ann Arbor Railroad was constructed through the area. The post office was reestablished under the name Pittsfield from September 1879 until it closed on December 31, 1907. [7]

The Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility (Previously named Huron Valley Women’s Complex) at 3511 Bemis Road, Ypsilanti 48197, opened its doors as a brand new facility on August 5, 1977, the day the Detroit House of Corrections in Plymouth on Five Mile Road closed for women permanently.
Pittsford is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located in Hillsdale County, Michigan.As of the 2020 census the population of the CDP was 553. The community is situated along M-34, straddling the border between Jefferson Township to the west and Pittsford Township to the east.
The Berkshire Humane Society began operations in 1993 at the site of a former MSPCA-Angell shelter in Pittsfield. [2] Work began on a new facility in 2001, and the following year BHS moved from its original location to a 25,000 square foot facility. [3] In 2010, BHS established Purradise, an adoption center for cats, in Great Barrington.
